Friday Thrifting...

Today Violet and I went to visit a friend who had a baby, but first we snuck in a little trip to the local thrift shoppe.  I picked up some books to use in my Fall decor, a vintage camera to add to my ever-growing collection, fabric, a wreath form, and a pretty blue and white plate.

I also found this darling coat and sweet little white shoes for Violet.  The spool of baby ric rac will be fun for gift wrapping and crafting!!

A Few Thrifty Finds...

Hey there, y'all!! Just wanted to pop on to share some thrifty finds I've gotten lately. You know how sometimes you want to wait to share something until its "done"?? That's how I felt about showing y'all this table, but I don't feel like waiting. Ha!! My friend, Amy, found this table in my favorite little church thrift shop a few months ago. I went to go look at it, but it was out of my budget at the time. I decided I would make myself paint and sell my other table first. Well, last Thursday I had to run an errand in the same town as the thrift shop so I ran in there to see if it was still there. It was!! I think they had it priced so high no one would buy it. This place is normally so cheap on everything else, too. Anyway, I managed to talk them down $40, so even though I still paid more than I wanted, saving $40 was awesome!! Now I just need to finish my other table and get it sold!!

Y'all can see that I decided to go with the red chairs from Ikea!! For some reason my husband isn't super sold on them with this table. On the subject of the table, I cannot decide if it needs a makeover or not. My thought was to maybe re-stain the top a dark walnut and paint the bottom white. I kind of like it like it is, too. What do y'all think??

I found these owls at Goodwill a few weeks ago. I thought they looked so sweet. However, they will be getting a makeover. I trying to decide on a funky green or teal. Any opinions?? These cute hoots will go into the kids' room. Y'all might remember I briefly mentioned that all four of them are sharing a room...I'm trying to make it as gender neutral as I know how. And I don't. I am gleaning a lot of inspiration from all of you, however!!

Ahhh...this table. I've actually had it for over a year. I paid $20 for it at a yard sale and was so tickled pink to have a table that not everyone else does!! I did paint and glaze the wood top. The lamp is also a secondhand find. Brass originally, I sprayed it with a Fern spray paint and it looks fab!! We had to put a few of our favorite Fall books in a basket!!

Anybody else seeing the irony{no pun intended} of all the dust on my "Domestic" piece?!?! Hahaha!!!

P.S. I'm listening to Christmas music right now...How crazy is that?!?!

Friday mishmash...

I drove my children to school this morning, just like any other morning. Except that this morning happened to be trash day. I felt my van turn down into this neighborhood right before the school. I saw what looked like it could have been a metal shelf in a trash pile. I was thisclose to picking it up. Since I wasn't sure if all the components were there, I decided to drive on. This neighborhood is still being built, so there was a dumpster in front of one of the houses. I caught a glimpse of chunky wood and chicken wire. Be still my beating heart...I pulled over and rescued this piece. Isn't it fab?!?! I am seeing a jewelry organizer!! I just need to detach that funky piece of wood off the top and hang 'er up!!

Earlier in the week I got a wild hair to do a switcheroo of bedrooms. We gave the kids the master bedroom-all four of them are in there!! We took the original master, which Jackson, Lilly, and Fisher were sharing. I love it!! It is so cozy. Our other master, which was built on sometime later after the house was built, along with my "backroom" from the last post, is gargantuan and works much better for the four little people than this other room. I cannot wait to fluff my new love nest!!! Here is my inspiration for the color scheme...

I'm lovin' this tablecloth from Target!! I think it would make the prettiest curtains!! I was teetering on whether to get these for my bedroom, or use the curtains I made for my living room in the last house. It would certainly save money!!

Yesterday Jackson and Lilly got in the van and said, "Mom we need team shirts or jersey's to wear tomorrow!!" This was vaguely familiar sounding-something for Relay for Life, where they pay a dollar to wear their favorite sport teams shirt. Only problem is we don't have a favorite team-not being sports fans and all. Jackson informed me his teacher said if they didn't have one then they could just go to the store and buy one. Um, okay??? So, I despaired for a minute, then called Jenny. I was pondering just going to Wal-Mart and praying to find inexpensive team shirts, when Jenny suggested going to look at Goodwill. Duh!!! Isn't that what I always do when I need something??? So, we went and we found some shirts. Yay!! Represent'n the Bulldawgs, yo!!

Whew...Happy Friday, y'all!!

We bought a new house!!!

Gotcha!!! No, we are happy where we are!! I did, however, snatch up this little cottage at a yard sale. You ever just feel the pull as though your car is on auto-pilot?? Yep, that was me today. I was just driving back home and felt the need turn around for a yard sale. It was in one of those frou-frou type neighborhood's that you don't necessarily think will have cool old stuff and surprise, surprise...
I think I have a new addiction...;)


Speaking of new addictions...how about this metal box?!?! I love the colors and the style. I think I'm in love...

Pillows, Pillows, Pillows...

I had this wild hair last night to make some pillows. I've had the chenille and the cutter quilt for quite some time and I always snatch up vintage sheets whenever I see them, too.

I dyed the chenille with teal dye. It was previously white. I love how it looks with the red and white polka dots!! The rectangular pillow in the middle is going to my bestie, Jenny, all the way across the US.

Here is a close-up of her. The pink chenille is original and I've had it for a while. We used some of it for Lilly's crib skirt and a lampshade. That was over 6 years ago. Wow, how time flies!! I still have a bit of it left so I decided to pair it with the blue chenille and quilt. I found the vintage red pompoms at a yard sale for only 10 cents for a big bag of it!! I love the way this one turned out!!

Here is another pillow I made. I used a scrap of a quilt top for it.

The back side got vintage sheets. Simple envelope style pillow covers are so easy and a fun way to add more texture and color!!

One last pillow...I made this one from burlap and osnaburg for my friend, Amy's birthday. She also collects blue jars and bottles, so I grabbed this one when I saw it at an antique shop.

Don't you just love how pillows can transform a space?? Should I put them in my pityfully empty Etsy shoppe???

My Joy-FULL Journey to Fingerville...

This is the story of two girls, a vintage sofa, and a small town. I was looking on Craigslist in early December for a vintage couch and found one. I recruited my friend, Leah{pictured above with her husband-my husband's best friend from high school...they lost touch, and have recently rekindled their friendship, but that's another story for another day...}

My new-old couch...Ain't she a beaut?? I swiped this pic from the Craigslist ad...It was love at first sight!! She needs a lil lovin' and I'm open to any ideas y'all have...

I did have to trave out of state to get her...Thought I was goin' to Inman, SC.

Whilst driving to get my newest love, we passed a sign that said Fingerville. I knew I *had* to get a pic!! Doin' my best Vanna White...

Driving thru, I may have belted out a line or two from "Coal Miner's Daughter"...Seriously, the town{?} reminded me of Butcher Holler. I met the sweetest girl there, Ashley, who is gonna start blogging. Right, Ashley?!?! Funny little side story...I emailed the standard C-list link thing{help...} and Ashley writes me back and gives me a little info about the sofa-yes, it was still available, was passed down from her Grandmother-lovin' that history!! Then she emailed me back saying she had read my blog. So funny!! I'm always shocked and amazed to hear people come here!!

I really don't know what struck me so, but we took a slew of pictures of me with this sign!!

I mean, really...It was so funny!! I promise I am not poking fun, just loved the name...Only in the South...

I'm pretty certain I was catching my breath here...

"Oh..." Might I add a little disclaimer here?? In addition to my camera hating me on a regular basis, it also adds about 80 pounds. I swear I'm a size 4. Okay, size 6. ;)

Now this is a little out of order, but you'll get to the other "Joy-FULL" part of our trip later. Anyways...after all of our fun, Leah and I decided to go eat at Cracker Barrel. If you've never been to one, you are missing out on a real treat!! They have awesome country cookin' and a super fun shop!! In fact, Leah and I got matching blue chicken mugs. So cute!!

Anyway, the decor there is very vintage country. This sign was above our table and I had to take a pic for y'all...

Then there was this sign. Seriously, strap, street, strip, stroke, strut are the only "str" words?? I need to go pray now...

Now for the best part of my journey...

I MET JOY OF JOYFULLNESS!!!!! I thought she lived on the way to where I was going and indeed she did. We decided to meet up at Chick-Fil-A. Let me tell you, Joy is the sweetest person and such a great Mom to her little guys. And those boys are even more delicious in person. Looks like I ate one, doesn't it?!?! ;) Seriously though, Joy has the sweetest temperment with her little men and makes me want to be a better, more intentional Mom. Joy, I cannot wait to get together with you again and CRAFT this time!!!

Oh, we met up with Joy after picking up the couch and just as Joy was answering her phone, Leah was telling her husband about Fingerville, and I lost it!! Completely lost it!! Poor Joy had to listen to me laugh for probably a minute until I could gain my composure!!

What happens in Fingerville, stays in Fingerville!!

Victory is Mine!!!!

Sooo...I got up bright and early{not so bright, actually, but whatever} and went back to the yard sale where I saw this beauty yesterday. I asked the lady, who is 74, if she would come off the price and she said, "No, I'm funny like that, but I'd rather give it to the needy than to come down." Um, okay. I said that I only had $40 on me. That was as high as I was willing to go. I told her I'd have to ask my husband and she hands me her phone. She's a spunky one!! I called him and said that they wouldn't come down and he said that $50 was a little steep. I told her I'd have to think about it. By that time her son-in-law had gotten there and so I asked about these three chairs that they had. He told me they were $5 for each one. I started walking towards the chairs and I overhead the lady ask if he'd take forty for the cabinet. He asked what I was doing with it. Apparently they were concerned that I was going to buy it and turn around to re-sell it. Um, no!! I told them I was going to use it and that I loved it. They agreed to $40 as that was all I had on me. He said that for $50 that I could have the cabinet and all three chairs, to which I replied, "I only have forty." He then said that I could have the cabinet and all three chairs for $40!! God is so good!! So let's see...I either paid $40 for the cabinet and got the chairs for free or I paid $25 for the piece and $5 for each chair. Either way, I won.
By the way, what color do I paint her?? I'm leaning towards green...

Junkin'

I took Jackson to school this morning and on the way home passed a yard sale sign. It was in an old folk neighborhood and wow, was it great!! I got this at one sale. I think the lady used to have a booth at an antique shop. I loved the stitchery on this runner{I assume, but it will be getting cut up and the other half going clear across the US to my bestie}. Oh deer{pun intended}, is it ever so cute!! The pillowcase...well, I cannot pass up vintage floral. The frame is pretty awesome, too!! It will definitely be getting a makeover.

At another house, this couple was selling some old tools and I did get some wood-1x4's to make signs. I saw this plant stand in their garage and asked about it and the lady gave it to me for only $2. I also got a bunch of chicken wire at another house. I'm doing another craft show and I was thinking I would make chicken wire cloches as well as frames.

One thing I passed up but cannot get off my mind is this gorgeous cabinet. It needs some lovin', but I may need it. What do you think?? Would you pay $50 for it?? I'm a little cheap and don't really want to pay that much, but it is a sweet piece and OLD. The lady selling it said it was over 100 years old. Someone started to refinish it, the brown squares at the top are actually doors. They need hinges and some of the veneer seems to be loosening up in areas and half the hardware is missing. I just think it is so unique and my husband thought it was cute, so we'll see. If its still there later then its meant to be, right??

First of all...thank you for all the baby love!! We are lovin' having Violet as part of our family. She is precious!!

I have a hankering to do my laundry room and make it a place I want to be. The vintage ugly green ironing board will hang on the wall as a memo board of sorts. I love my clothespin bag and it is part of my inspiration for the room also. I am going for a fun, vintage feel. What does blush have to do with all of this?? That is the color I am thinking for in there. Am I crazy to want pink's cousin for my laundry room walls?!?!


Went to Wal-Mart the other day and looked at their paint swatches. What should jump out at me but Fresh Cut Flower, part of the Blushing Pinks Color Palette!! In LOVE...

Oy...what a mess. I don't normally have this much laundry going on but "Princess" and her cousin decided to pull ALL of her clothes out one day-I could've killed them. ;)

Anyway, we have a good space to work with. I would like to add a chandelier and have one I can re-do from the thrift store. Oh yeah, have I mentioned that I want to put my house on the market. Am I totally crazy to paint and prettify the laundry room if we list it?? Its really only the cost of paint and I would so enjoy it while we are here.

This is where it is in my house, between the kitchen and dining room. The pantry is to the left, across from the laundry room. The blush color would look so good with my green kitchen and chocolate dining room.

While my Mom was here last week, we went to the thrift shop and I got a few goodies. The tag punch was only $1, the hoops and the basket were $2 all together and my total for the day, including the ironing board was about $9. I love the little pot. It has a crack, but I am just gonna keep it facing back and no one will be the wiser.

Bits of Summer...

Just thought I would show y'all my summer mantle. I've really been diggin' green, black, and white lately. I got the mirror from a thrift shop a few weeks ago. It was ugly brass and only $5. The green and white plate came from the same shop. I got the candlesticks at a yard sale. They originally came from Kohl's at $19.99 each. I paid $3 for the pair. While they were nice as they were in their original brown/black state, I knew a coat of Fern spraypaint{inspired by these} would make them even better. The 5 came from a local antique shop. The reverse side has a 6, so when Violet comes I'll just flip it around.

I just love, love, love this plate. I got a set of six of them. Should've gotten the larger ones as well...In case y'all are curious about the ribbons reflecting in the mirror, my children decided to make up their own version of Wipeout and tied a bunch of ribbons to the upstairs railing.

You may not be able to tell, but I wrapped some black and white polka dot fabric around the pot and tied it with vintage green lace seam binding.

Remember when I shared my summer swap package with y'all?? I loved the way my partner put sprinkles in a mason jar, so I put chocolate sprinkles in a vintage flip top jar. I added an ice cream sign, ant from Fisher's birthday party, vintage ice cream scoop from my swap to a $2.50 Target tray. Happy and Summery, I think!!

Ten and eight, I heart the Restore...

Too bad that didn't rhyme, huh?!?! Oh well...I thought I'd show y'all what's been up lately. I have BIG, exciting news to share, but that will have to wait for another time. Don't y'all hate when people do that?? Hahaha!!!
Anyway...I went to the Habitat for Humanity Restore Monday and got all that you see above for $10. I have a love/hate relationship with that place, much like with Goodwill. I was eyeing a coffee table but they wanted $30 for it. I'm sure that's not a bad price for some people, but for me, it was a little much. That day at least.
Many of these items are getting a makeover. The child's kitchen will be painted and I am going to make a skirt for the left side and plan to add a sink and burners made from round plaques. Of course, I will share the finished product. The stepstool will be getting a new paint job, as well as the flower bucket. The house letter is actually a 9, but I plan on turning it upside down and framing it{maybe}, since we will soon be a six person family. I thought the wooden bobbins were just cool and might be cute in a glass container of some sort.

Love this little piece of salvage and I plan on getting vintage hooks and hanging this in the kids' bathroom.

I went back to the Restore yesterday to get this window. I could not get it out of my mind and had to make the trip just to get it. It was only $2.50!! I am going to knock out the glass as one of the panes is cracked. I plan to hang this above my bed and put sconces on either side. I will probably hang a wreath from the window, also.

Ah, these cabinet doors. At first sight, I had planned to tape off an area and paint with chalkboard paint, but then came up with another idea. I have a black J and F that I got from Kohl's that I am going to mount on the doors instead and hang them above the boys' beds. Speaking of the boys' room....I have such big plans for that space and cannot wait to get started!! It involves pallets!!

Coffee bags. Gaining popularity and hard to find, I think. Not that I've really looked, but they are cool. I may make pillows out of these??
