My First Attempt At Tassel Making

Hey y'all!!
I stayed up last night attempting to make a tassel or two. I am happy with how they came out. It was a little easier than I thought and I could become addicted to making these. I think they would make great gifts too!! I found this wooden pear at one of my favorite antique shops on Friday. Afterward, I went next door to Hobby Lobby and got ribbon and fringe. Maybe if you click on the picture you can see more detail. I used various ribbon and ric rac as well as the two different fringes.

I also got the little birdie at the antique store. He was slightly trickier as he doesn't have a loop to string the ribbon thru at the top. I first tried hot glue. When that didn't work, I used Liquid Nails. Now if LN can hold a seat on a riding lawn mower, surely it can keep a piece of ribbon attached to a bird. Well, I tried to put the bird picture until this type but it is proving to be difficult. I tried to highlight and pull it down, but it turned into a long line of letters and numbers.
I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions about my tassels. I know they are not Susie's or Nester's but I am pleased with them.

Hope you all have a fabulous day!! I'm off to do laundry and vacuum. Oh, and feed the children...
Elise

Wow, look at you! Those are beautiful! I came over from Bienvenue. My question is (and if you don't want to give away your secrets, I undedrstand) what are you attaching the fringe to? Do you roll it up and glue the bird on top of the roll? I wish someone could show a step by step post, but that might make some sellers upset. anyway, GREAT job!

Dude I love u, but sometimes I wonder how we even became friends. Dont get me wrong, u are so creative, but tasseling is something I would never do....where do u and all the people who have commented on this get ideas for them. I mean I can embroidery but that is the extent of my sewing and other such related abilities. If u can make money on them though, u go! Please come spend the night with me and bring your maching so that you can whip up some curtains and pillows for the window seat that is soon to join Maya's room! Love your BFF, Misty

Your tassels are quite cute! I bought a bunch of those same wee birds at Old Time Pottery - they are about $2 each and they are resin. I drill a small hole for the ribbon, glue it in and stuff it down a bit with a bamboo Shish Kabob thingy. I have tried to put an eyelet screw in, but they are kind of plaster or weird flaky resin and they don't hold well. They really stink badly when you drill them to, so because of my health issues, I'm going to do it outside wearing a mask from now on. Old Time Pottery also had the same brown birds Nester used recently, but they were all really rough and looked like they had been painted with sand paint - very ugly IMHO.
Have fun making tassels! I was laughing when you said that HL Christmas ornaments had good tassel potential - I was thinking the very same thing - just waiting for them to come on sale!!!!
