Best 50 cents I ever spent.

Yep, that's right, I got this beauty for fifty cents at a yard sale this past Saturday!! I knew immediately that I would clean it up, give it a makeover, and the jars will holding glitter. Not bad, huh?? Well, its nastier than it looks. I emptied out the spices and have the jars soaking. They are still sticky, and you don't even want to know about the wood holder. Yuck!! Any advice about how to de-grease this??
Stay tuned for its makeover!!

What a great find...I would just use 409 to degrease it...

VERY cool... I am wondering since you are going to paint it anyway, what about soaking it in dish soap too?? I might even run everything through the dishwasher!

That is so neat! I was thinking dish soap as well (Dawn original formula works especially well for some unusual projects).

I can't wait to see it all fixed up!

Lysol 4-in-1 works really well on getting grease off everything! Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

That is going to make a great glitter holder. I'm not sure about the degreasing, I've got nothing.

Great find for $.50!!

Have you been to Metro Thrift Store? I discovered it a couple of weeks ago and it's a good one.

Oh that is adorable!! TSP ought to take the grease right off the wood for you.

If you have not already cleaned up that wooden holder, you can use Liquid Gold Wood Wash. I cleaned kitchen cabinetry to look like new. You can watch the grease and grime drip off. I did however scrub a bit with a vegetable brush.
Wipe it down, no rinsing necessary.
Good luck! Can't wait to see what you turn out.

I would just use some liquid sander on it to sand off the shine and any gunk on the surface of the wood. Then the paint will stick really good to it. I can't wait to see this done because I can see your glitter shelf already in my mind...great find! Happy Easter!
