A Gift for Jack

We have a birthday party to attend tonight for one of my friend's little boy, Jack. He is three today. I generally do not buy toys for kids gifts-they have so many already. His birthday theme is firetrucks so I got him a little golden book about fire engines. We also got a drawing pad and crayons. Unfortunately, Lilly thought the crayons were for us so she ripped the back of the box trying to open them. Back to Wal-Mart we go to get more!! I made the shirt and bag. Just ironed fabric to wonder-under then onto the shirt and bag, stitched around the letters and voila, a fun, personalized gift!!

All ready to go!! I have to say I feel a little "green" using a tote for a gift bag and it was less expensive than a cute gift bag would have been.

Hope y'all have a wonderful Tuesday night!!

What a wonderful gift...I LOVE the idea of using a tote with the childs name on it for the gift bag. I will definately have to remember that.

How very cute! I like to give crayons and paints and markers to little kids, too! Especially if they aren't mine! I love the tote bag--very nice....I actually made my Anna a dress out of that very same fabric you did the letters in!

Also, I know Alice and Tim love to have kids out at there farm--we went out there when I homeschooled, too. So if you're ever in the area you should look them up!

What a super gift! What a great idea to personalize the shirt and bag! Did you say wonderunder? Do you buy that at hobby lobby or something? And did you handstitch or use a sewing machine? Can you tell I mostly work with wood? :)

Elies, What a great idea!!! My kids are getting to the age where I start buying pizza gift certificates and a movie rental for their friends since I never know what toys they are in to.

What a perfect gift! I agree about the toys-we have an overflow in our home that are going in a garage sale this weekend! I love personalized gifts-probably because my name is one you never find on things. You did a wonderful job and the way you put it all together-PERFECT! My neices birthday is coming up and she has everything-a personalized gift would be great for her, thanks so much for the post, it's getting me thinking!

Elise- I hope you join another swap as I would love to be your partner!

What did you decide about curriculum? I have heard really good things about Bob Jones and am thinking of using it for Katie this year... Lori

Love the gift! I hate buying toys too. I struggle with making gifts for boys, you thought of a fantastic idea. Perfect font on the letters too. Mind telling what it is called?

Darling gift! You asked when I started teaching my kids to sew. Brittany is nine and has been doing simple hand work for a couple of years. She asked for a sewing machine last christmas and I got her a small basic "real" machine, not a toy one because those are just frustrating! It is a fun thing for us to do together as long as I keep the projects simple.

So cute! I love wonder under. I lol about the crayons. My kids did the exact same thing once.

Did I know you are a homeschooler? I seem to be running into a lot of homeschool Southern moms blogs lately. I guess you all are pretty amazing.

I am going to homeschool my kids this year. Wish me luck!
