Lilly's Room...Brace Yourselves

*Let me preface this post by saying that Lilly and I are free spirits and would rather make messes then cleaning them up!! Clearly...
I thought I would show a before{albeit, a very bad before} photo of her room. There are no afters yet...I do have wonderful plans for her room. Lilly wants pink walls{I don't}, but I think I will let her have her girly wishes. We'll see. At any rate, I am going to put shutters on either sides of her windows. I plan to make a valance from an old pink chenille bedspread I have and edge the bottom with yo-yo's. Therein lies my problem with pink walls. I would rather do her room the same color as the half bath. I need to make a duvet cover for her bed and maybe a sham as well. Luckily, we have beautiful furniture to work with. Love the antique metal bed!! You can click here and here {I actually love this girl's whole house!!} for some inspiration. I am going for a vintage-y, cottage-y, Granny's Attic kind of feel in here.

Here is the opposite view of Lilly's room. I got the black cabinet for $25. It still needs a little help. The bookcase to the right I would like to put somewhere else in the house. I am thinking of hanging an accordian hook on the left by the closet door for her dress up clothes.

Lilly would like to offer you a strawberry for some housekeeping!! Hahahahaha!!
What do y'all think?? Let the girl have a pink room?? Or do I pull rank and just have pink accents?? Help!!

Ok first of all her dresser looks exactly my white dresser when I was a little girl, I mean exactly... My niece uses it now, didn't think my boys would want to. I love the shape of the walls... my two cents would be to compromise, and let her have a super super soft pink wall color, almost white with a tint of pink... That way all of the pink accents will pop and she will be happy they are a shade of pink... Still say you need to post that kitchen!

I went through this when we built our house. Lexi wanted Hot Pink and I did not so I went with a soft color of pink...Wall Flower by Shermin Williams. I thougt it was to dark but after it was on the wall it really looks pretty. Lexi loves her room and I actually like it to. So many have friends love it. I am no designer but I think we did ok.

I love your black cabinet,,,I can't wait to see what you do. I just bought me a chennile bedspread last weekend and am loving it. It reminds me of me being at my grandmothers when I was little.

Funny how Lilly is offereing strawberrys, we just got about 10 plants a few days ago and planted some. I love me some berrys. Has the rain slowed down up there...finally has here.

Oooooh!
Can't wait to see the finished product! And, let's see....my 2 cents is, let her have it. But see, that's coming from a mom who would let my kids have a bright purple room if they wanted it, so....Jen's compromise sounds good...she'll still feel like she was part of the process! Whatever you do, I know will be adorable. And, oh, could that valance sound any cuter? Stop it. SOOOOO cute :)

whatever you decide, you will make it adorable! you have a knack for that...I'm just hoping you aren't planning to paint the third weekend in April!

I went through the same thing with my daughter. Except I let her pick out her comforter first. Her room in our old house was gorgeous! Apple green, light pink and yellow. Now, she's picked out a comforter that is purple, aqua, dark blue and white. There are pictures somewhere on my blog :)

Anyway, I let her pick one thing out and then worked around that so she could have what she wanted and I could do away with some really obnoxious, tacky ideas that her little 6 year old brain thought would be really cool! Her room is still a little bright for me, but it was a compromise and we both like it for the most part.

And ironially enough - it was the room that got the most positive comments when our house was on the tour of homes in our town :)

Oh, I can't wait to see what you come up with...To respond back to your comment the other day. *smiles* I do not have a circuit. It's not that I don't like owls, some of them look strange to me. The ones with the Pottery Barn inspiration are super cute! Oh, where does your brother live? I am in the panhandle. Would love for you to take a visit!

I have a GREAT idea - I had the same "pink" issue with my daughter... I found the lightest pink EVER and had them mix it 1/2 tint- (which made it even lighter) then it looked beautiful, very soft, shabby chic, and still looks great with pink accents...my color was a Ferril Calhoun called "Ballet Slipper"...again mixed 1/2 tint...it will almost look "white" until it dries...
good luck- I know it will be beautiful!
Blessings!

Her room is going to be sooo cute! The shape of her room is like mine! I am totally agreeing with everyone, let her have the pink and do it in a really light shade! Emma's nursery and her room now are green and cream and I cannot wait to do her room in girlie pink!! Have fun, cannot wait to see the finished product!!

Let her have pink ;) Speaking from experience... she will probably go through a phase where she no longer likes pink and wants camo and you will wish she liked pink all over again :)
